Two young golfers from the Leader Joe 1808 Foundation junior tournament have made it to the list of the World Amateur Golf ranking for the first time in history of Junior golf tournament in Nigeria.

A statement from the Foundation said the two golfers were selected after the results of the 2023 junior ctournament which it hosted over the weekend was sent to the World Amateur Golf Ranking

“After sending our results to the WAGR, we got a reply confirmation by Ross McDonald, WAGR Administrator that teo of our championship tournament participation Emmanuel Otukpa and Grace Agbo will be ranked and listed among the young amateur golfers on the website of the World Amateur Golf Ranking,”

Reacting to the development, Executive Director of the Foundation, Leader Joseph Onus said “We are excited that our junior championship participants are going global and for the the first time Nigerians are recognized on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Our hope is that in 2024 we have a competitive process that will attract more international recognition for Nigeria in the game of Golf,”

Speaking further, he called for “Partnership with the federal government and private entities in catching and empowering young minds in the game of Golf which will help Nigeria in realizing talents that could boost the sports in future,”
