Independent Hajj Reporters, a civil society organisation currently monitoring Hajj activities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has commended the Oba of Lagos, Alhaji Rilwanu Lukman Akiolu for his dedication and commitment to the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims on 2014 National Amirul Hajj.

A statement signed by its national coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad and publicity secretary Abubakar Mahmoud in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, said the Oba of Lagos’ utmost dedication to the welfare of the pilgrims has helped a lot in surmounting the challenges they hitherto faced at the beginning of the exercise.

“We extol and appreciate the fatherly role played by the Oba Oba Rilwanu Lukman Akiolu of Lagos as the leader of Federal Government delegation and National Amirul Hajj for 2014 Hajj exercise. His fatherly guidance, maturity and dedication contributed greatly in surmounting challenges encountered in this year’s Hajj.

The civil society said the Oba’s unprecedented generosity has helped the pilgrims a lot. “During the Oba’s visits to states pilgrims’ accommodations in Makkah, he donated 110, 000 US Dollars to the states he visited. This was in addition to his tireless assistance to Hajj officials,” the statement added.
