For no reason, the National Assembly has postponed its proposed resumption date, as it continued its holiday, which has lasted for about two months, till next week.
Both the Senate and the House of Representatives, had on Thursday, July 27, 2017, embarked on a 6- week annual recess with resumption fixed for Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
But in a press statement issued yesterday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Omolori, the resumption for the lawmakers will now take place on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
The statement titled “Postponement of Resumption Date and dated 13th September 2017 reads : ‘This is to inform all Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the House of Representatives that the resumption date of both Houses in plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday , 19th September , 2017 to Tuesday , 26th September , 2017.
“All Distinguished Senators and Honoursble Members are by this notice requested to resume sitting in plenary in Tuesday 26th September, 2017 by 10:00am prompt.”.
Though no reason was cited by the clerk in the statement for the postponement, but the extensive renovation work currently being carried out in NASS including the Hallow Chambers of both Houses is generally believed to be the reason behind it.
