NANS talks tough on ex president’s ill health

The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has relocated its secretariat to Minna, Niger state capital seeking for the urgent release of money approved for medical treatment of its former National President Comrade Dauda Mohammed,
The National President of the Association, Comrade Chinonso Obasi disclosed this in a press briefing yesterday in Minna, added that the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has approved the funds already but they are finding it difficult to access it.
Obasi decried that the health of the former students’ union leader was deteriorating every day while state government officials were reluctant in releasing the money approved by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to pay for the treatment in an India hospital.
He informed that the students were running out of patient with the bureaucracy bottlenecks associated with the release of the fund despite the emergency needs to save the life of its former president who is an indigene of the state.
“We have resolved to relocate the secretariat of NANS to Minna in Niger state until the fund is released and our pragmatic former president is flown abroad for the treatment” he declared.
He further lamented that since the former president of the association was diagnosed with liver problem, efforts at getting assistance from eminent personalities who were former leaders of the association have proved abortive adding that NANS has to relocate to Niger as the last option.
Comrade Obasi also noted that he has mobilized Nigeria Students to Government House Minna to appreciate the Governor for the approval of the needed funds and to inform him that accessing the money has become very difficult.
The President charged the federal government to ensure the provision of standard medical facilities in the country to enable citizens obtain treatment instead of going to foreign hospitals.
“Government should be more proactive to think of making available high medical care to its people. It is the responsibility of government to provide standard and adequate health facilities” he stated.
