Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has donated 16 operational vehicles to security operatives comprising of Police, Army, Civil Defence and the Department of State of Security Service, DSS,with a charge on them to step up the fight against crime in the state.
Governor Ortom who reiterated his commitment to tackle violent crimes and other forms of criminality in the state, stated that the vehicles should be stationed in Katsina-ala, Gboko, Otukpo and Makurdi to ensure prompt response to emergency situations in those axis.
He recalled that before his assumption of office in 2015, there was general insecurity in Benue State raging from herdsmen attacks, cattle rustling, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, amongst others, noting that the crime rate has been reduced to the barest minimum.
Ortom stressed that the security of the state has also been further enhanced by the reinforcement of the Joint Military and Police Task Force code named ‘Operation Zenda’ which necessitated the donation .
‘ I believe that these vehicles in four locations, would facilitate easy access to most of the flashing points that security agents found difficult to penetrate due to shortage of mobilities. These vehicles will again, facilitate easy movement to all places that are prone to insecurity and require prompt responses”, Ortom stated.
While commending the efforts of all the security agents in the state fighting crime, the Governor charged them to be vigilant and bring to an end incessant killings of innocent people in the state.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matter, Col. Edwin Jando, applauded the security agencies in the state for their rapid responses to security situation.
He said the donation of the vehicles would enable the Security agencies cover remote areas and fight crimes.
In his remark, the commissioner of police, Benue State Command Bashir Makama, stated that the security agencies require the collaboration and cooperation of the government and people of the states to discharge its responsibilities to Nigerians.
He commended Governor Ortom for the gesture, saying the vehicles would be put into proper use in order to enhance the security of lives and property of citizenry.
