Adamawa gets new REC as 130,000 PVCs remain unclaimed

The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC), Adamawa state office has announced the official resumption of its new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Kassim Gana Gaidam, posted to the state by its Head Quarters in Abuja.
This development was disclosed in a press release signed and issued by the state Administrative Secretary of the commission, Salihu M.Ya’u, in which he noted that on his assumption of office in the state recently, Gaidam has met with his management team including all Electoral officers from the twenty one Local Government Areas in the state with an appeal of cooperation and support from all.
According to the release, Gaidam has also toured all the 21 councils in the state to monitor the progress report on the ongoing continuous Voters Registration exercise.
It added that the new REC has commenced the engagement of some stakeholders, security agencies and Elders from Madagali Local Government Area to proffer polished strategies on security challenges impacting on the CVR exercise in the area.
“The Resident Electoral Commissioner is encouraged with the turn out so far recorded during the CVR exercise and urged those who have not been registered to do so.
“A total of 86,631 have been registered before the application of Automated Finger Identification System (AFIS), while 130,000 unclaimed PVC are lying idle. We are appealing to the genuine owners to claim them.
“The REC will continue to lead the affairs of the state office in its preparation towards the conduct of a successful general Elections come 2019 in Adamawa state”, the statement highlighted.
Our correspondent reports that Gaidam hails from Yobe state and was the REC in the state (Adamawa) in 2010-2014 before his transfer to Gombe state as REC from 2014-2015 and was the REC who conducted the 2012 Governorship Election in Edo state respectively.
