A civil society group, Water Sanitation and Hygiene Initiative (WASH) is to partner with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)to improve environmental sanitation in Abuja rural communities.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit to the secretary, FCT Area Councils Services Secretariat (ACSS), Adamu Abubakar Bappah, the leader of the group, Mr. Uchenna Obiakor, explained that its objectives was to bring sanity to communities in FCT area councils, using improved sanitation facilities.
Obiakor added that the initiative would also promote the importance of school and community sanitation in the area councils and ward level as well as improve hygiene practices in schools.
He stressed that the group is also involved in testing, development, establishment and improved curriculum teaching aids and programme, to promote family and community involvement in the sustainable water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities.
Obiakor maintained that project will basically focus on the six area councils in the FCT, covering approximately 100 primary schools and 50 communities as pilot, to be scaled up after one year.
“The project which will attract capacity strengthening of all stake holders.
“After all deliberation of their mission they solicited for help from the parent body of Area Councils for support to make all these laudable mission and vision to be a reality,” he said.
Responding, the Secretary, FCT Area Councils Services Secretariat (ACSS), Adamu Abubakar Bappah commended the group for the visit and promised to look into their presentation before taking the appropriate actions.
