Following a meeting between the national leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Benue state government, workers in the state are to be paid two months salaries.
Peoples Daily learnt from a source that after the meeting in Government House, the National President of NLC Wabba Ayuba addressed officials of the union at their secretariat and intimated them that government has agreed to pay two months salaries while negotiation would be ongoing.
The meeting at Government House lasted for over five hours with both the NLC President and Governor Samuel Ortom refusing adamantly to disclose to newsmen what was offered on the table during the negotiation.
According to the source, workers have agreed to collect the two (2) months offered them by government but the strike continues.
Wabba said a joint ethnical committee will be constituted by labor to continue negotiation with government until the salary issue is resolved.
It should be noted that State workers are owed more than seven (7) months salaries while teachers, local government staff and pensioners are owed for eleven (11) and thirteen (13) months respectively.
