Opeifa unveils DRTS ICT Training Centre in Lugbe

In a bid to engender professionalism and better service to the motoring public, the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic (DRTS) yesterday unveiled its ICT Training Centre in Lugbe, designed for internal and external capacity building of relevant workforce.
The Centre, a 100 seat ICT training facility was constructed furnished by the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) through the Universal Service Provision Fund.
Speaking at the commencement of in-house training and official commissioning of the Training centre, Secretary of the FCT Transport Secretariat, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, said it is a specialized ICT facility equipped with modern gadgets for requisite training of road traffic personnel.
Opeifa, who was represented by the Secretariat’s Director, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Department, Engineer Wilson Unogwu, also described the facility as a befitting world class training centre, aimed at improving trafic services in and around the nation’s capital.
The FCT Transport boss, stressed that raining and retraining of staff will be continuous to ensure that all staff have the necessary skills to optimally perform their duties.
Urging DRTS staff to see the training as an avenue to be pruned and re-shape for better service delivery, he however warned them to desist from unwholesome acts, inimical to the good image of the directorate.
Earlier in his address, the Acting Director, FCT-DRTS, Wadata Aliyu Bodinga, noted that ICT training cannot be neglected if the directorate must effectively perform its duties to the public, because relies heavily on ICT. Bodinga reiterated that the training centre came at no cost to the FCT administration, but as a result of self-reliance initiative in fostering rewarding relationship with development partners.
He added that the in-house training for 450 Staff, which will run for few days, was funded by the administration in partnership with Messr Temple Resources Limited, through the directorate.
According to him, this year alone, about 8 DRTS staff have enjoyed international trainings in the area of vehicle inspection, urban traffic management and intelligent transport system, as a result of the robust initiative of collaborative relationship that exist between the FCTA (DRTS) and public private partnership and the multinational Aids.
