Exam malpractice: Expulsion of 16 students sacrosanct – Yobe CABS Rector

The Rector, Yobe state College of Administrative and Business Studies, CABS, Potiskum, Yobe State, Musa Auta has insisted that expulsion punishment handed over to 17 students of the institution for their involvement in examination malpractices during first semester examination would never be pardoned, as the management would in no way compromise standard of ethics in examination.
The Rector of the College, Alhaji Musa Auta, who stated this in his office, recently while reacting to a petition written by the expelled students said that no amount of threat would make the institution to reverse its action on the expelled.
“We will not pardon them, we won’t go against the ethics of the examination committee of the College,” the rector stated.
He explained that the expulsion followed recommendation of a five-man Committee set up by the Academic Board of the College who found two cases of impersonation with 15 students caught copying from the exhibit material, a finding that was proved when 10 out of the 17 students voluntarily appeared before the committee and admitted being guilty.
He therefore called on those who feel they are not comfortable with the action to go to Court adding that his administration would no longer tolerate examination malpractice and cheating.
“I took oath to be fair and honest to all irrespective of any inclination in the discharge of my responsibilities, even if my wife or son were caught cheating during examination disciplinary, action would be taken against him or her,” he affirmed.
He disclosed that the saboteurs had made efforts to frustrate any meaningful decision adopted by the school, but the management declined.
“We want to maintain standard in our academic dealings,” the rector said.
He commended the Gaidam-administration in the state for the support and cooperation which enabled the college to be accredited by national board for technical education, NBTE.
“Governor Ibrahim Gaidam is doing well in the education sector despite set back brought about by the terrorists during the era of Boko Haram insurgency in the state,” he added.
