Minister calls for improved funding to education sector

The Federal Government has been called upon to provide adequate funding to education sector in order to arrest some challenges faced by it.
He said: “Education offers us the knowledge, tools, skills and attitudes with which to address and surmount these challenges, to correct and overcome inhibiting deficits, and to put our country on the path of accelerated development and sustainable change”.
The minister of Education, Mallam Adam Adamu, who made this call while presenting an address during the presidential retreat on education for ministers which tagged “Change Begins with Education” at old banquet hall in Abuja.
His words: “As we all know, no nation can rise above the standard of its education that serves as the springboard for every kind of development. If education is weak or dysfunctional, society and its development will also be weak and dysfunctional”.
He charged the government of the day to place a higher premium on the welfare of the teachers, While pleading with the government to take the administrators of the universities as well other tertiary institutions along in the scheme of things.
The minister, however, expressed dismay the manner at which the government allocates annual budget to education from 1999 to date.
