House of Reps to capture NIPI rehabilitation in 2018 budget

House of Representatives has announced its resolution to capture the rehabilitation of the National Institute of Public Information (NIPI), Kaduna in the 2018 budget.
The Chairman House Committee on Information and National Orientation, Hon. Odebunmi Olusegun made the disclosure when he led his committee on an oversight visit to the institute in Kaduna on Tuesday, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Deaconess Grace Isu Gekpe.
Hon. Olusegun who lamented the dilapidation of the institute’s infrastructures and obsolete state of its equipment, said maintenance culture in Nigeria is very poor.
According to him, “the infrastructure here is adequate if given the required maintenance.”
He however said that, the House of Representatives will consider rehabilitation of the institute in the 2018 budget.
In her own remarks, the Permanent Secretary said, she will inform the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, about the state of the institute and ensure that it is given a facelift.
She said the ministry will also consider Public Private Partnership in its efforts to return the institute to its glorious past.
The Permanent Secretary, who attended a three months course at the institute in the 80s, expressed her nostalgic feelings of a beautiful and serene NIPI.
