FRSC, Police tackle gridlock on Asaba-Onitsha expressway

The officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Delta State Command, and the Police yesterday were literally locked in the battle of clearing high level of traffic grid-lock along the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway.
Speaking profusely, the officials of the FRSC and the police had tough times with motorists especially long vehicles, and commercial buses at the deep holes before the head Bridges.
Eye witness said that the grid-lock may not be unconnected with the festive periods, Christmas/New year around the corner.
Investigation revealed that broken down vehicles on the Expressway also contributed to the unbearable situation where motorists including travelers to the Easter parts of the country were allegedly locked in abuses and counter-abuses.
Within Nnebisi, Okpanam roads in Asaba and its environs, the situation was worse hit as motorists including keke riders were subjected to one way following the repairs of the drainage system that will channel water-flood into River-Niger.
But the State Commander Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Random Kulven who spoke to journalists, described the grid-lock as pathetic, adding that it was informed by the Ibo traders already traveling home for Christmas/New year celebration.
Noting that the grid-lock was temporary, the FRSC boss cautioned motorists against violating traffic rules, warning any violators would be adequately sanction.
Further investigation revealed that the grid-lock had also resulted in the hike of transport fair as Asaba to Onitsha which used to be N150, 00 is now N250, 00 while within Asaba a drop currently attracts N100, 00 instead of N50, 00 a drop.
