Ahead of the December 9,National convention of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, one of the aspirants for the National Chairmanship slot, Sen.Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja has agreed to step down from the race in order to boost the electoral chances of Prof Tsoheed Adedoja from Oyo stste thereby brightening the chance of south west geo- political zone to produce the next National chairman of the party.
Sen.Ladoja, announced his decision to step down during a marathon meeting held amongst aspirants from the zone in Abuja yesterday Wednesday hosted by him, saying his decision was based on his conviction that the south west must produce the next National Chairman of the party for the sake of equity and fairness. It was also gathered that all the deputy chairmanship aspirants from SOUTH WEST have withdrawn from the race in the overall interest of South West and the party.
‘”My ambition to seek for the National Chairmanship position of our great party, the PDP,is not in doubt, but l feel l have to sacrifice this ambition for the overall and collective interest of the south west to produce the next National Chairman of PDP.
“Since the inception of this party, the PDP, the South West geo- political zone is yet to produce the Party’s National Chairman and l believe is now or never if the party wants to make any serious electoral impression in 2019.
‘’it is a against this backdrop and conviction that my stepping down will boost not only the chances of our zone, but garner up more votes for the zones preferred candidate.
‘’I therefore urge my other brothers to do likewise and let’s support a candidate that is acceptable and non controversial.
It was reliably gathered that other aspirants though welcome Ladoja’s gesture, but still insisted that all must go to the field to test their popularity and acceptability.
Other aspirants who attended the meeting include Prof.Taoheed Adedoja(Oyo),Prof.Tunde Adeniran(Ekiti),Otunba Gbenga Daniel(Ogun),Chief Olabode George and Jimi Agbaje(Lagos).
It will be recalled that the PDP had earlier zoned the position of the party’s National Chairman to the south, but the South West are yet to produce a National Chairman.
Also in the from the South south are High Chief Raymond Dokpesi( Edo ) and Uche Secondus (Rivers ).
However, with this development,a staunch member of the party ,Malàm Haruna Bamali from Kaduna state has therefore urged the South West National Chairmanship aspirants to ensure that a consensus candidate emerges to brighten the chances of the zone towards producing the next National Chairman of the party.
