A non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Koyenum Immalah Foundation (KIF) in Asaba, Delta State has taken steps to end violence against women, and others in the society.
At a round table discussion to mark this year’s 16 days of activism against gender based violence against women, and others, held in Asaba yesterday with participants drawn from civil society organizations, media, and active citizens, Executive Director of the NGO, Miss Faith Nwadishi, noted with dismay the increasing violence against women in the society as set back to sustaining development.
She added that: “Our democracy cannot thrive well with violence against women, and our advocacy against gender based violence focuses on both sex (male and female), and from our records, the girls child/women suffer the most” she said that right from birth of the girl child, the society had been enveloped with hue and cry of violence indiscriminately against female gender, insisting that it was the high time it stopped.
While displaying over 100 art works from over 40 female, Miss Nwadishi advocated stiffer punishments for those who willfully violate under-aged girls, attack women, and in most cases strangle them, adding that this year’s programme, the women took bold steps through their works to evidently show the extend of violence against women.
