From Mustapha Isah Kwaru Maiduguri

The Comptroller, Nigerian Customs, Borno/Yobe Area Command, Mr. Angbalaga Jesse Joshua yesterday said that, the insurgency in the northeast has seriously affected the activities of the command in discharging its duty effectively.
Mr Angbalaga lamented the lack of functional economic border in Borno and Yobe states.
According to him, the command have lost over 26 officers and men as a result of the insurgency yet to be overran by military operating in the northeast, particularly in Borno state.
He said, the Custom has 13 economically functional borders and only two are functional.
According to him, the border at Gaidam in Yobe state is functional while the other in Borno is functioning skeletally.
Mr. Angbalaga said, unless the Nigerian military finally crush the Boko Haram insurgency to free Borno state particularly, the 13 economic borders across Borno and Yobe states would remain closed.
He also sought compensation for Custom officers killed by insurgency and the need for training and retraining of its officers and men.
