Yobe state Governor, Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam has presented a gift of N500, 000 to next of kins of some fallen soldiers who died in battle against Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast, and particularly, in Yobe state.
He also gaveN300, 000 to next of kins of soldiers who sustained injuries in battle field to assist them for recovery.
This is just as the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, which started with the launching of the Emblem Appeal Week ended yesterday.
Our correspondent reports that this gesture is part of the governor’s show of concern and interest in the gallantry and professionalism, resilience being displayed by Nigerian soldiers who dedicate and surrender their lives to protect and preserve the sovereignty and peace of their nations and freedom for humanity without reservation.
Recall that in the year 2017, the state governor spent over N24 million as assistance to families of these fallen heroes as well as those injured in fighting insurgency in the state.
The celebration was climaxed with the laying of wreaths at the symbolic memorial tombs of the fallen heroes.
This was followed by the releasing of pigeons which symbolized peace for the nation as a whole, and Yobe state in particular, and then one of the widows of the fallen heroes, Mrs Amina Bashir.
