NTI boss tasks state govts on capacity building, training for science, mathematics teachers

Director General Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, National Teachers Institute (NTI), has appealed to state governments to co-operates and work with the institute in building Teachers capacity in the area of science and Mathematics in the country.
According to him, sponsoring teachers to participate in the strengthening Mathematics and Science Education SMASE programme will help them become better teachers.
He made the plea at the 2017 Meeting with Stakeholders on Nationwide Capacity Building Workshops for Primary and Junior Secondary School Teachers held in Kaduna.
He pointed out that the institute would continue to work in close co-operation with some local Universities and other tertiary institutions as well as international agencies to design programmes that would address the current Teaching needs of Nigerian teachers.
He said: “ We also plan to maintain the tradition of effective monitoring of the programme by involving ‎all the stakeholders that constitute the Institute’s monitoring team. I want to use this opportunity to solicit for states continued support and co-operation to work with the institute in organising capacity building workshops for your teachers. The Institute is appealing to you to avail yourselves with the opportunity offered for the training of your teachers in Science and Mathematics through SMASE-Inset training programme. This will assist in raising their capacity to impact positively on the level of their students achievements in schools.”
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, represented by Desk Officer, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Khadija Liman Ahmed said plights of Nigerian Teachers was most priority to him.
He commended NTI for building capacity of teachers nationwide and assured the institute of his continues support to enable them improve the quality of teachers in the country.
