From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

The chairman, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) Professor Garba Ibrahim Sheka, has revealed that 30,000 ad-hoc staff will participate in the forthcoming Local Government election in the state.
Sheka had slated February 10 to conduct the election, hours after he was sworn-in as the new chairman of the electoral body, by the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, late last year.
Speaking in a live programme, titled, “Barka da hantsi “, on Freedom Radio, 99.5FM, in Kano, Sheka said the ad-hoc staff were drawn from the 44 Local Government Councils of the state.
According to him, the staff would be dispatched at the 10,000 polling units across the state, explaining that each polling unit would have 4 electoral staff.
He also revealed that 7 Electoral Commissioners, would be assigned to oversee the election in the 3 zones of the state.
Sheka, also disclosed that the state government had set aside adequate fund, which had already been deposited into the commission’s bank account, for the successful conduct of the poll.
He assured the staff of prompt payment of their allowances, as soon as they submitted all the materials given to them.
“We have since received our fund from the state government. The fund had already been in our account. Every staff will have his allowance promptly.

“Had the staff were not so many, we would have collected all their account numbers to pay their allowances through bank.
“Notwithstanding, I assure our staff of prompt payment of their dues, provided they submit all the election materials and result intact.
“I call on them to work diligently and avoid being compromised. They should not be used by unscrupulous people to scuttle the well-organized election, “he warned.
