All smugglers operating in Adamawa and Taraba states have been warned to desist from the illicit business or face the full wrath of the law.
The Area Comptroller In charge of Adamawa/Taraba Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS),Mr, Adetoye Francis gave the warning in Yola noting that,his command has introduced new strategies in combating smuggling activities in all ramifications.
Comptroller Francis while auctioning out about a thousand litres of diesel confiscated from smugglers to military and Para-military formations in the state declared that his command has intensified marine patrol on River Benue channel linking Nigeria and Cameroon to contain smuggling activities.
Francis said the present administration has zero tolerance for smuggling which he described as harmorrhege on the economy.
The comptroller warned smugglers in the border states to stop in their own interest as the service under the present leadership of its Comptroller General Hameed Ali has zero tolerance for smuggling.
Francis said the command made nine seizures within the past one month valued at N3.2 million.
He said the command which was given the target of N16 million monthly generated N20.5 million in January.
The diesel was auctioned to military and Para-military organizations at the cost of N100 per liter.
