Entrepreneurship: SDS mulls intensive training for prostitutes

Date:

The Social Development Secretariat (SDS) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) looks to embark on intensive massive entrepreneurship training for prostitutes, taken off the streets, as part of effort to ensure they are properly reformed, in order to live a more dignified life.
According to the SDS Secretary, Alh Oladmeji Ali Hassan, who dropped this hint, after imparting vocational skills on the commercial sex workers, the government will support them with start up packs.
Oladmeji, who spoke during a maiden media parley with the current leadership of the Secretariat, reiterated the FCT Administration like never before is committed to encourage prostitutes to realize what they have learned.
He said: “It’s not enough to pick up prostitutes from the road, but how to help them seek other sources of making a living.
“We are looking to expose prostitutes to comprehensive skills acquisition programme, to ensure they become self-reliant.
“Most of them are always going back on the illicit trade, because they are not able to survive without engaging in the nefarious act.”
However, the SDS boss decried that the centre for the rehabilitation of sex workers in FCT has become inhabitable, because of the poor state of the facility.
He therefore reassured that the Secretariat plans to rehabilitate the dilapidated centre, to ensure it’s put into good use.
