Following the recent crisis and disturbances between Fulani herders and Irigwe communities in some villages of Bassa local government area of Plateau State, a popular group known as Bache Cultural Development Association ( BCDA) from same LGA has urged the Federal and state government to as a matter of urgency equip security operatives to protect the lives of its members and other troubled communities in the country.
The group which made the call yesterday during a press conference in Jos also noted that unless the government wake up to its constitutional obligation, the country would collapse.
In a statement signed by the National President of the group, Engr. Simon Asukuchili Agoh, said, “ government must wake up to avoid the collapse of this country. We are urging the government to equip and create the enabling environment for security agents to perform their constitutional duties of protecting lives and property.”
The chairman who accused both Irigwe and Fulani communities of showing serial forms of aggression against Bache people denied the rumours making the round that Bache community was harbouring Fulani militia, saying that the said allegation was not true.
He said despite the provocation of killing their kinsmen, the Bache people have been calm to resolving the issues amicably in order to sustain unity and peaceful coexistence.
He added that , “ our traditional rulers have been holding constant meetings with the Fulani that have settled among us from time immemorial and agreement reached that new visitors will not be tolerated. In the light of this, Kiche community is not harbouring Fulani militia.”
The group further called on all ethnic nationalities in Bassa LGA to live peacefully with one another, noting that there was no alternative to peace. The group however called on Operation Save Heaven ( OPSH), to release one of its members who was arrested in the wake of the crises in Bassa.
