- As NASS holds valedictory sessions for late Bukar, Jibrin, adjourns plenary

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, forwarded to the Senate, three different letters seeking confirmation of appointments made into three different government agencies.
The President, in the first letter addressed to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, sought the confirmation of Barrister Festus Okoye as a Federal Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing the South East Geo-Political zone.
In the second letter, the President requested the Senate to confirm 23 newly appointed commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC).
The names of the commissioners are: Nwanne Nwabuisi (Abia State), Dr Chidi Ezeoke, (Anambra state), Barrister Isa Audu Buratai (Borno state), Navy Captain Charles Iyam Ogwa (Cross River), Sir Richard Odibo (Delta), Okereke Onuabuchi (Ebonyi), Olusegun Aiyejina (Edo) and Ejike Ezeh (Enugu).
Others are: Hon Abubakar Danburam (Gombe), Prof Uba Nnabue (Imo), Dr Abdulmalik Durunguwa (Kaduna), Suleiman Lawal (Kano), Prof Habibat Jimoh Isah ( Kogi), Dr Sa’adu Ayinla Alanamu (Kwara), Nasir Isa Kwara ( Nasarawa) and Barrister Aliyu Datti ( Niger).
Also in the list are: Yeye (Mrs ) Seyi Olusanya (Ogun), Prince (Dr) Oladiran Iyantan (Ondo), Senator Mudashiru Hussain (Osun), Mrs Cecelia Dapoet (Plateau), Dr Ipalibo MacDonald(Rivers) and Sale Saany (Taraba).
In the third letter, the President asked the Senate to confirm membership appointments into the Federal Judicial Service Commission as non legal practitioners. It has Senator Abba Ali from Katsina State, as nominee for the North West Geo- political zone and Mohammed Sagir from Niger State as nominee for the North Central geo- political zone.
President Buhari also forwarded a letter of condolence to the Senate over the deaths of Senators Ali Wakili (APC Bauchi South) and Mustapha Bukar (APC Katsina North).
While Senator Wakili died on the 17th of last month, Senator Bukar died eight days ago.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly yesterday adjourned plenary to mourn the death of their colleagues, late Buba Jibrin (APC, Kogi) and Senator Mustapha
Bukar (APC, Katsina North) who died during the Easter break of the National Assembly.
Both chambers, in line with their tradition, hold valedictory session for the two lawmakers to highlight their achievements in the parliament and their striking personalities.
Late Buba Jibrin died on the 30th of last month after a brief illness. He was a third time House of Representatives member, as well as Deputy Majority Leader of the 8th House of Representatives.
Late Jibrin was also a strong supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), until his death, he lived a simple life and was respected among his colleagues.
The House of Representatives, on it resumption from Easter break suspended all legislative activities to pray for the repose of the soul of their departed colleague. The prayer was held in both Christian and Muslim faith.
On the other hand, the Senate on resumption yesterday, adjourned plenary to today immediately after adoption of its votes and proceedings of Thursday, March 29th 2018, when it embarked on Easter recess, to morn the death of their colleagues, Senator Mustapha Bukar, who died eight days ago during the recess.
