Pause arms sales to Nigeria – BRGIE rallies US lawmakers for Biafra recognition

Date:

The Acting Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, Ogechukwu Nkere, has rallied United States of American lawmakers in Washington to pause sales of arms to Nigeria and sought the recognition of the Biafra state.

This was disclosed in a statement by APM, Nkere, on Monday.

According to him, in the first half of September 2025, he met with Congressman Brian Mast(Republican, Florida), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and Congresswoman Lamonica McIver (Democrat-New Jersey).

He said the request becomes necessary following human rights in the South East Region, including the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, by the Nigerian Government.

Nkere further stressed that he sought the advice of the lawmakers on what could be done by the US government in addressing Finland’s persecution and conviction of Simon Ekpa.

This comes as Nkere noted that he assumed the active management of the BRGIE following the conviction of its Prime Minister Simon Ekpa in Finland.

“In addition, APM Nkere met with Ambassador Tibor Nagy, longtime senior State Department official and diplomat with extensive postings in Africa.

“In his meetings, APM Nkere encouraged U.S. strategic engagement with BRGIE on the Biafra issue, as well as encouraging the US Congress to pause arms sales to Nigeria”, he stated.
