Children’s Day: Nasarawa Speaker, First Lady advocate sound education

In commemoration of this year’s Children’s Day celebration, theNasarawa state House of Assembly Speaker, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has advocated the need for parents to give their children sound education which according to him” education is lasting legacy for a child”
The Speaker who further described education as best instrument to fight poverty and other related abuses melted on children hence the need to give priority to children education.
He condemned in strong terms violence against children especially hocking and street begging emphasized the need for all stand in defence of violence against children.
“Children are special gift from God. I call on all to put smile in children faces especially the less privileged ones” he added Also speaking on the significance of Children’s Day, the Nasarawa state First Lady Hajiya Salamatu Tanko Al-Makura has described children as leaders of tomorrow and called on parents and all the relevant authorities to accord topmost priority towards their wellbeing .
Hajiya Salamatu who spoke to our correspondent in an interview through her media aide, Safiya Mohammed urged parents and guardians should always ensure proper upbringing of their children in order to make them useful to the society.
According to her, “ I appealed to parents to take the education of their children into cognizance by taking them to school. I call on the children to always listen to their parents by adhering to moral teachings at their various homes,” She admonished.
The First Lady added that education is the key to every phases of development. Therefore advocated that parents and the government at all levels should deem it paramount for children to acquire education for the future development of the country and the world all over.
“ I appeal to government to bring back the past glory in education sector. Governments should employ professional teachers as well as equip all public schools with required facilities .Doing this would encourage parents to take their children to public schools “She maintained.
Salamatu lamented how children today indulged themselves in consumption of illicit drugs which according to her “ It constitute to a great menace to the entire society.
“Government should checkmate the sales of illicit drugs by medicine vendors in our communities. I call on our religious leaders to continue to preach moral values to our children for them to become good leaders of tomorrow. Some of the children are the future president ,governors ,senators ,representatives e.t.c,” Salamatu emphasized.
