Unidentified thieves operating in the riverine areas have reportedly stolen facilities worth N1.6billion at Delta collapsed library in Bomadi.
Confirming this to our reporter in Asaba, the police Commissioner in the state, Muhammad Mustafa, said “unidentified thieves have stolen facilities worth N1.6billion at Delta collapsed library in Bomadi, we are investigating the incident, no arrest has been made, but we as security agents will do our possible best to bring to book the thieves”.
Investigation revealed that the Delta state library building in Bomadi had collapsed in the past two years with its facilities, such as Books, tables, chairs and others allegedly stolen by yet unidentified thieves operating in the areas.
The dilapidation and subsequent collapse of the library building had unsettled the people Bomadi, especially students of various schools in the community.
But, Moses Oyere, a student of Government college, Bomadi who spoke to our reporter said “I and two of my colleagues were shocked on our visit to the library building which had collapsed, and the books carted away, the state government seems to be insensitive to this problem, we do not have a library, we appeal to the state government to come to our aid”.
Expressing concern over the collapse of the library, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Chiedu Ebie, said “the state government is very worried about the theft at the library and the collapse of the library building, government is very committed to the development of education, it is unfortunate, in the collapsed library building, we are doing something to rebuild the library, education is very paramount to this present administration, and so, it will do everything possible to maintain all existing infrastructure in education”.
Another student, Eniye Ojobokeme, however appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, to heed the calls for help, and rebuild the library, stressing that the striking atmosphere in the reading environment as a result of the collapsed library building including furniture, facilities stolen hitherto remained unhealthy if urgent steps are not taken to ensure a functional library.
