Gov’t pledges support for honey-bee farmers in FCT

Honey-bee farmers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been reassured of support to improve their production capacity of the commodity.
This assurance was given by the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the launch of the Pan-African Apiculture, in Abuja.
He noted that the Territory has a very good climate for honey production.
“Already, you know that the FCT is situated under a very good climatic environment. We have a lot of valleys, hills and this is a very good home for bees.
“Also, the weather is not too hot and not too cold, because we have rains. And if you go to Yaba, Kuje and other places you will see that we have favourable natural vegetation for honey production,” he stressed.
Bello, who was represented by the secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat (ARDS), Hon. Stanley Ifeanyichukwu Nzekwe, maintained that ApiExpo Africa Abuja, 2018 would be huge economic benefits, which would transcend into the agriculture sector.
“It portends a very great economic, business and diversification potentials for the FCT, particularly the suburbs, where agriculture is really practiced.
“By September, we will be having a desk, where participants all over the world will be coming to Africa to showcase what they have, not only in the agric sector, but also in tourism.”
