The Honourable Federal Commissioner of National Commission For Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has lamented the death of eight Cameroonian refugees taking shelter in Ikom camp of Cross River State describing it as a painful loss.
This was made known in a press statement released in Abuja by the
Commission at the weekend and signed by S.A. Media to the Federal Commissioner, Hajiya Halima Musa.
It stated that the National Commission For Refugees,Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons is deeply saddened by the death of eight Cameroonian Refugees in Ikom, Cross River state.
It was revealed that the refugees whose death was caused by fumes from a generator in their room were among those who crossed to Nigeria following the political crisis in Southern Cameroon.
According to the statement, “the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the death of the Refugees is a painful loss coming when the deceased were trying to survive the displacement they found themselves in”.
“She expressed the determination and commitment of the Commission to continue to execute its mandate to its Persons of concern while urging caution and adoption of safety measures by the refugees” the statement concluded.
