The Katsina state Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari has directed newly appointed 34 Transition Committee chairmen not to operate from outside the headquarters of the local governments.
Alhaji Aminu Masari was speaking shortly after swearing in the 34 newly appointed transition committee chairmen at council chambers of government house, Katsina.
The Governor requested them to note that he only travels to Abuja for official engagements while he hardly travels abroad but preferred to stay with his people in Katsina.
Masari had earlier informed the gathering that the intention was to have an election, but the opposition has dragged the APC administration to court.
He explained that although they have won the case, the opposition proceeded to Appeal court in Kaduna.
He observed that the court case was meant to prevent the state APC from having a structure at the local government level.
The Governor said although he promised not to break the law but under the circumstances had to bend the law for the emergence of the transition committee chairmen.
He revealed that majority of those appointed are not known to him but hoped that they would discharge their duties to the best of their abilities.
He noted that the screening by the state house of Assembly was meant to give them a semblance of degree of legitimacy.
The Governor announced that they would be given each a list of councillors to assist them in the due discharge of assigned responsibilities.
He reminded them that their performance will determine what the people would wants them to become in future.
Alhaji Aminu Masari revealed that they are taking over almost a bankrupt local government system, adding that they needed to be prudent and accountable in the management of resources.
The Governor warned that let no transition committee chairman try to parade himself beyond his level, stressing that no one should assume duty with the thinking that so, so and so group do not support his emergence as chairman.
He said it will not take a second to remove any one of them found wanting in the discharge of their duties, advising them to work in harmony with the APC leaders at the local government level.
He also asked them to know how to work closely with the civil service structure in the local governments.
The Governor assured that the state government would support them with funds for his success of the administration in the state.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, the speaker of katsina state house of assembly, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar kusada and the secretary to the government of the state, Dr Mustapha Inuwa as well as the Katsina based business mogul, Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal.
