Four employees in a construction site were yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing building materials worth N520,000 from a construction site.
The accused are: David Uche, 36, a security guard; Oluwaseun Ogundele, 34, a carpenter; Fidelis Nwobodo, 38, a security guard and Ikechukwu Nwagede, 28, a labourer.
They were alleged to have committed the offence between November 2013 and Feb. 22 at Iroko-Awe village in Ilasan, Lekki area of Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Uagbale Oje, told the court that Nwobodo also faced an additional charge of assaulting a Sgt. Adewolu Abiodun of the Ilasan Police Station, Lekki, Lagos.
Oje said that Nwobodo assaulted Abiodun, who allegedly caught them in the act and their employer, Ms Ekaette Mfon.
The court was told that the accused had no fixed addresses, except Uche, who resides at No.1, Ajose St., Iroko-Awe Village, Ilasan, Lekki area of Lagos.
Oje said the accused stole two trips of granite, 20 tonnes of sand and 180 pieces of planks valued at N520,000, and that the offences contravened Sections 170, 172(a), 285(7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285(7) prescribes a term of seven years imprisonment for anybody found guilty of stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Miss O. Ope-Agbe, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till April 4, for trial. (NAN)
