UniAbuja UNESCO club holds conference

The UNESCO Club of the University of Abuja has organized a conference held at the management science lecture theatre in the University.
In his opening speech, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Adikwu, who was represented at the occasion, said his administration would continue to support the UNESCO Club of the University.
Also in his welcome address, the Co-ordinator of the UNESCO club of the University, Dr. Ranti Ojo, told the gathering that UNESCO club of the University of Abuja chapter was found eleven years ago.
He pointed out that UNESCO club of the University had carried out different programmes in line with UNESCO ideals and motives which include; promotion of education, cultural values and heritages, science and technology, fostering peace, unity and love in the University and observation and making UN international days among other events.
Ojo thanked the Vice-Chancellor for supporting the club financially and morally, while applauding the UNESCO club members of the University for their initiative.
On his part, the representative of Chinese Embassy/Cultural Centre in Nigeria, You Baoming, said the Embassy would continue to partner with the UNESCO in the University.
Presenting the conference’s lecture entitled “The Role of Media and Information Literacy”, a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts in the University, Dr. Oklobia Adakole and Dr. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, who is the UNESCO Club Staff Adviser in his remarks, both, advised Nigerians against disseminating fake information in the society.
The conference which was attended by the representative from UNESCO and other dignities featured the provision of scholarship to the ten students in the University.
