Kaduna Central Senatorial aspirant on the umbrella of Peoples Democratic (PDP), Lawal Adamu Usman, has called on his supporters to shun provocation from any quarters at any point to avoid unnecessary clash.
Usman, who appeared to be the youngest aspirant for the position across all political parties in the zone, made the call during his tour of the local governments under the senatorial zone yesterday.
To him, the electorates are yet to enjoy dividends of democracy over the years; hence he pledged to offer meaningful and competent representation when he is elected to the Nigerian Senate.
At Kujama, the headquarters of Chikun local government, he told his supporters “thank you for this warm reception you have given to us. We are here to tell you that we shall, by the grace of God, give you real dividends of democracy the moment I get to the red chamber of the National Assembly.
“I want to enjoin you to please conduct yourselves orderly and shun provocation from any quarter and to remind you that I have genuine concern for the personal safety of supporters and opponents alike”, he said.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after the tour, the senatorial hopeful said, “political participation derives from the freedom to speak out, assemble and associate; the ability to take part in the conduct of public affairs; and the opportunity to register as a candidate, to campaign, to be elected and to hold office at all levels of government, some of which have been distorted over time.
“Under international standards, men and women, young and old, have an equal right to participate fully in all aspects of the political process”, he said.
