…emergency officers deployed to troubled areas in North-east

The leadership of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has increased its staff in areas attacked by insurgents in Borno and Adamawa.

The Director-General of the agency, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sidi revealed this in a statement issued by NEMA’s North East Zonal Information Officer, Mr. Abdulkadir Ibrahim, in Yola.

It said that the measure was in response to the spate of attacks on communities within the borders of Borno and Adamawa states.

“In response to the rising tide of attacks around border communities in the North East, the Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sidi, has dispatched the Director, Search and Rescue of the Agency, Air Cdr. Charles Otegbade, with additional staff from the Abuja head office,” it said.

According to the statement, the development is to complement the efforts of the officials of the North-East zonal office, who have been trying to assist internally displaced persons affected by the incidents.

“Within the last two weeks, camps have been created in schools and other secured locations in Alau, Kawuri, Konduga and Bama communities, to cater for the affected persons.

“As the situation improves, more camps are expected to be created to cater for more people,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the North-East Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar,

with staff from the zone and other stakeholders in emergency management, had been collaborating to provide succour to those affected by the attacks.
