Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has emerged flag bearer of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP for the 2019 election.
The governorship primaries, which was scheduled to hold on Sunday was disrupted by rainstorm just when the over 3000 accredited delegates wanted to cast their votes.
As early as 6am Monday, when voting was said to have commenced, three (3) aspirants; Prof. Tor Iorapuu, David Iorhemba and Dr. Tivlumun Nyitse announced their withdrawal from the race in the interest of the party.
Voting lasted for over five(5)hours and at the end, Ortom pooled 2,210
to defeated Surveyor John Tondo who scored 475 while Engr. Felix Atume hot 44 and Paul Orhii 10 votes.
Announcing the result, Chairman of Benue State PDP Governorship Primaries Hajiya Zainab Maina returned the governor as winner of the primaries.
In his remark, Governor Ortom commended delegates for their resilience in ensuring a hitch free election.
He appealed to those who contested with him to join hands and work for the party’s victory in 2019.
Ortom expressed confidence that Nigerians will team up with the PDP in 2019 and take the country out of the woods.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC has unanimously adopted Emmanuel Jime, Director General Nigeria Export Protection Zone Authority, NEPZA as its governorship candidate.
Publicity Secretary of the party James Ornguga who co firmed this in telephone chat said the election was by affirmative vote.
