The Kano State Government has donated relief materials worth N40 million to flood victims of Rimin-Gado and Kabo Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the flag off of the donation programme, held at Rimin-Gado Local Government Secretariat , the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the government had responded swiftly to the victims in order to ease their plight.
According to Ganduje, who was represented by his deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the state government had since released N100 million to assist the victims.
He said the government had spent N40 million to provide 987 bag of cement, 678 roof sheets and cash to assist the victims.
The governor emphasised that the state government was always ready to provide succour to the good people of Kano State in the event of any disaster outbreak.
He called on general public to assist the government in maintaining their environment
in order to mitigate the recurrence of the flood disasters.
Earlier in a remark, the Director Operation, State Emergency, Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SERERA), Aisha Lawan said 339 houses were destroyed by the flood in Rimin-Gado Local Government area, while 5 people died and 5 injured.
She added that 424 house were also destroyed in Kabo Local Government area.
She explained that 2 bundles of zinc sheets and 3 bags of cement were distributed to them victims in Rimin-Gado, adding that N50, 000 and N30, 000 were donated to families of the deceased and injured victims respectively.
“We also donated 848 bags of cement and 848 since sheets to victims of flood in Kabo Local Government.
