The Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama, has provided drugs, worth about N1m and free medical services to residents of Galuwyi community, in Bwari area council.
Some of the medical services include, free glucose and blood tests, hepatitis, high blood pressure, malaria and HIV/AIDS tests, as well as provision of free malaria treatment, antihypertensive drugs, iron supplements, analgesics, anti- diabetogenic, condoms, sanitary towels, ointments and creams.
It was gathered that the medical outreach to the community tagged, ‘Family Health Day’, which is in partnership with Oakfield Initiate, attracted about 300 residents of the area.
According to the president of Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama, Miss Winifred Ogbebo, the medical outreach is one of Rotary’s core areas of services.
Ogbebo explained that many rural dwellers have little or no access to healthcare, hence the medical outreach was dedicated to bridge this gap, adding that the club has invested so much in the community.
She reiterated that the club, which has adopted Galuwyi community, had also built a health care facility, health workers residence and three boreholes, among other facilities and services in the community.
Ogbebo therefore called on other well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with the club to offer more services to the less privileged as Bill Gates and Emeka Offor are doing to support polio eradication in the world.
“There’s no satisfaction greater than impacting lives.
Governments across the world cannot do it alone, that’s why we keep having annual budgets.
“Come, let’s join hands and make the world a better and brighter place. We have achieved so much in our polio eradication efforts today because of the joy of partnership,” she said.
