Govt to invest heavily on curbing non-communicable diseases in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reassured resolve to sustain and invest heavily in the fight against diabetes and other non-communicable diseases in the Territory.
In particular, the FCTA revealed that through its Non-communicable Disease Control Programme of Public Health Department has been carrying out sensitisation and screening of staff of the secretariat, department and agencies and the general population on non-communicable disease and risks factors therein.
This was disclosed by the Secretary for FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat (HHSS), Malam Adamu Abubakar Bappah, on the sidelines of the 2018 World Diabetes Day.
Bappah reiterated that the Administration would continue to work with all stakeholders, including international donor agencies and the United Nations in the fight against the scourge of diabetes.
The secretary explained that this year’s celebration, with the theme, ‘Diabetes and the Family’, was primarily aimed at raising the awareness of the impact that diabetes has on the family and to promote the role of the family in the management, care, prevention and its eradication.
He continued: “At this moment, we have endocrinologists in the services of the secretariat and all our health facilities are well equipped with basic equipment and drugs to ensure optimal management of referred cases.”
