Niger govt. spends N7bn on schools devt in 3 years -Commissioner

The Niger State Ministry of Education has expended N7,049,756,837.72 from 2013 to 2016 as counterpart intervention funds to UBEC for the construction of 568 classrooms, 369 renovation of classrooms, procurement of 15,847 furniture and others.
State Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatima N, Madugu disclosed this yesterday at the Ministry of Information and Strategy organized ministerial stewardship press briefing held in Minna.
Madugu explained that because of the prime priority of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello for education had spent N3,893,157,695.60 on its Whole School Development Approach, a complete renovation of nine senior secondary school’s in the state.
She noted that it includes provision of students and staff furniture, science equipment and provision of solar power the schools like GGC Kontagora, GGC Bida, Science Collage Izom, Gov’t School Rijau, Science Collage Kutigi and Maryam Babangida Science Collage Minna among others.
She also disclosed a revenue of N27.758 million for registering ninety four (94) private schools in the state and procurement of four vehicles and two projects monitoring vehicles at the cost of N17.2 million.
The commissioner hinted that the state government has partner with DFID, UNICEF in the areas of various training, enrollment campaigns, annual school census, cash transfer Programme at the sum of over N68 million, N365.7 million and N96.1 million respectively.
Madugu further said that the State Universal Basic Education Board also procured a facility of N2.150 billion for 10,000 teachers in the state to motivate to put in their best and promote learning while include procurement of motorcycles especially for those in hard to reach areas of the state.
