Institute dedicates new convocation square to Gov. Gaidam

The Suleiman College of Education in Gashuatown, Yobe state, has renamed its newly constructed permanentconvocation arena to Ibrahim Gaidam convocation square in recognitionof the efforts of the governor in the upliftment of the college to agreater height.Provost of the college, Dr. Muhammad Gishiwa, made the declarationyesterday on the occasion of the 3rd combined convocation, 2019 forthe award of Nigeria certificate in Education (NCE) to 6,500 graduatesand presentation of prices to graduating students of the college whohave academically distinguished themselves in their respective schoolsfield during the 2001 to 2016 academic session.
“Let me reiterate that this administration under the leadership of Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam has propelled this college to lofty heights and surely into a world-class center of research, scholarship, and teacher education,” he stated.
He pointed out that the college lasted for 9 years without accreditation of its course, but with the intervention of the Gaidam-led administration, the college’s 29 NCE programmes and 12 degree in education programmes have all been accredited by the national commission for colleges of education (NCCE)
Consequent on this accreditation success of the NCE academic and degree programmes, he said, the admission quota of the college has increased from 1,025 to 3,850 leading to the production of the graduating students who graduated as fully qualified teachers whom the school authority certified, were drilled over and over again on effective teaching and learning strategies and what it takes to be an effective teacher, for which the college administration expresses gratitude to the governor.
Speaking during the occasion, the state governor, Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam, represented by his deputy, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, stressed that from time immemorial, education has been recognized as the necessary foundation upon which the socio-political, economic, scientific and technology agenda of any society could be built for its present and future generation,
“Consequent on this undeniable fact, when we came on board, we ensured that our policies and programmes were flexible and could meet the increasingly changing demand of quality and functional knowledge capable of including self-reliance among its beneficiaries for the overall development of the state and the pursuit of our goal, we ensured that education at all levels was made accessible and affordable for our teeming citizenry,” the governor said.
