…As collation center opens, adjourns till today

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s), national collation centre, situated at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, was on Sunday formally declared open by the Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu.
Agents/representatives of majority of the political parties, which fielded candidates for the presidential election held Saturday nationwide, were in attendance.
Prominent among the agents of the parties present yesterday were Col.
Hameed Alli, rtd, the Compteoller-Genetal of the Nigerian Customs Services, who represented the governing All Progressive Congress, APC, and Dr Dr. Usman Baggage, who came for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The INEC chairman used the opportunity to state the modus operandi (mode of operation) at the collation center.
Among these were; no receiving of phone calls in the hall, no granting of press interviews and no loitering around needlessly.
Prof. Yakubu explained how the result of the presidential election will be released, stressing that the results will be announced as soon as they are brought by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of each state.
The collation centre has however adjourned till 11am today.
