N/Delta group warns against plot to attack oil facilities

A pro-Ijaw group, Ijaw Rebirth National Congress (IRNC) has warned against alleged plot by political thugs to attack oil facilities in Ijaw communities in Delta State, saying that such plot if executed might portend “civil war” if urgent steps are not taken to avert the dangers.
The group, in a statement issued by Comrade Luke Owei, facilitator of the group, a copy made available to newsmen, said “such a plot could be intended to disrupt the outcome of elections in Ijaw communities.
The statement, however, called on the federal government and security agencies to be on alert to avert any attempt to destroy oil facilities in Ijaw communities, pointing out that the Ijaw people are law abiding, and supporting the federal government relevant intervention agencies to attract development to their communities.
The statement further appealed to Ijaw people across the Niger Delta region, particularly in Delta State to remain peaceful before and after 2019 elections, adding: “the Ijaw people are peaceful, law abiding citizens of Nigeria. We contribute greatly to the economic growth and sustainability of the country. We need peace and not political thugs coming to destroy the oil facilities in our domain we will not take it.”
