As part of its reinvigorated effort to ensure efficient implementation of Abuja Master plan, Development Control Department (DCD), has intensified monitoring and sealing of developments and buildings contravening the land use Act in the Territory.
In particular, the DCD enforcement team inspected Crystal Oasis Limited, a beverage factory still under construction in Area 1, Trinity Garden Wuse and Junkyard -near Musa YarAdua Center.
The DCD which is one of the city managers under the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) warned property developers to desist from arbitrary change of landuse or face prosecution and demolition.
This point was made by the DCD Director, Muktar Galadima, while speaking to a section of the media during the exercise on Wednesday.
Galadima insisted that unlawful change of landuse by developers without recourse to the appropriate authority remained a serious contravention of building rules and guidelines, and was capable of attracting sanctions, including demolition if necessary conditions were not met.
He also used the opportunity to warn other developers and residents to always contact the Development Control department before commencing on any form of development in the nation’s capital.
Not left out, one Mr. James Babagbale, who spoke for the contractor handling the beverage project site, confirmed change of landuse, but said that it had been in contact with Environment Ministry, which has commenced environmental impact assessment on the site.
He however admitted that the site for beverage factory still under construction, after Gwagwalada Motor Park in Area 1, only has approval for a warehouse, adding that there is plan to approach the Development Control for ratification of the conversion.
