Five accused persons including four women, were yesterday remanded in prisons on the order of an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged kidnapping of two men.
The accused are Kehinde Felix, Victoria Felix, Cecilia Felix, Ifeoma Felix and a man, Russia Odeta.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Idowu Ayenimo, who did not take the plea of the accused, said they should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions ((DPP).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused are being tried for conspiracy, kidnapping and robbery.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Sunday Emmanuel, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb.10 in Ado and Ido.
He said the accused had unlawfully kidnapped one Dr. Abimbola Abayo on the outskirts of Ado Ekiti, the state capital, and one Femi Mayegun at a filling station in Ido.
Emanuel alleged that the accused, who were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, also robbed Abimbola of his ATM card which they used to withdraw N550, 000 from his account.
According to him, the accused also robbed one Femi Mayegun of N1.5 million being the ransom they collected for his release.
The offence, he noted, contravened Sections 1(2), (a), 364 (2), 516 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Layi Obisesan, asked for an adjournment pending the DPP’s advice.
The case has been adjourned to April 9 for hearing. (NAN)
