Owing to the massive reconstruction works on the 10-lane Oshodi-International Airport road in Lagos, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has said it is essential air travelling passengers’ factor in delay times in their travelling schedule hence the need to leave their home early in order not to miss their flights.
The country’s airports management agency explained that the advice is imperative due to the increase in construction activities on the lane that results in the current traffic gridlock experienced by road users along the axis.
Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo had in 2017 approved reconstruction of the road as demanded by the Lagos state government.
The design of the project include the reconstruction and expansion of the existing carriage to three-lane Expressway on both directions, construction of two-lane Service Road in both directions, construction of Ramp Bridge to provide a U-turn from Ajao Estate to Airport, construction of a flyover at Nahco/Toll Gate and drainage works.
The works also included the removal of existing Pedestrian Bridge at Ajao Estate and construction of Pedestrian Bridges at Ajao Estate and NAHCO/Hajj Camp, construction of Slip Road to provide access to Ajao Estate, construction of Lay-bys and installation of Street Lights, among others.
FAAN image maker and head of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Herientta Yakubu reiterated that passengers leaving their homes early will ensure they get to the airport in good time and go through all check in formalities with ease.
She said “FAAN apologise for the inconveniences being encountered by passengers due to the situation, the authority has already mobilized security agencies to ensure that the situation is effectively managed.”
