The Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) have concluded preparations to host a sensitisation seminar to mark the International Women’s Day (IWD).

The event will hold on March 6, 2014 and will bring together civil society organisations, human rights activists, women, peace and security (WPS) network members based in Abuja, as well as the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

The seminar will hold at the New Chelsea Hotel, Central Area, Abuja, with the theme: “Women, Peace and Security: The Missing MDG”, and shall be used to commemorate the 2014 International Women’s Day.

This year, civil society will discuss ways to include women’s rights in conflict prevention and peace building efforts in Nigeria. Specifically, it is to discuss the contents of the National Action Plan (NAP) and call on relevant decision makers at the state level to draw up an implementation plan.

Panelists at the seminar will include political scientist and leading women’s rights advocate, Prof. Patricia Donli, Executive Director, Civil Society legislative advocacy Centre (CILSAC), Malam Auwal Musa Rafsanjani and Dr. Eleanor Nwadinobi, who will be discussing women in decision-making, women and conflict as well as, women, peace and security respectively.
