Determined to give sports a new facelift in the nation’s capital, the Federal Capital Sports Council has formed a body, Forum of FCT Sports Associations (FOFSA), to reposition sports in the federal capital.
Formation of the body was part of decisions reached after a meeting of the FCT Sports Associations to form a body that would be solely responsible for rebranding of sports in the territory. Apart from repositioning sports in the FCT, FOFSA is also mandated to champion the course of sports development and liaise with the FCT Sports Department with the aim of recovering all lands allocated in the FCT for Sports development purposes.
According to a press statement signed by FOFSA Chairman, Edem Selong, the body has three main terms of reference to pursue.
“Liaise with the FCT Sports department with the aim of recovering all lands allocated in the FCT for Sports development purposes.
“Enhance on the need for grassroot sports development programmes with the aim of discovering hidden/budding athletes.
“Look at the means of stopping the poaching of athletes by other states from the FCT.”
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the committee,EdemSelong thanked the Association for the confidence reposed on the team and promised to use his wealth of experience in sports administration and vast contacts within and outside Sports circles, to ensure that FCT occupies a place of pride in Sports in the Country and even beyond.
