Jigawa Primary Health Care Agency receives N1.7m worth of polio vaccines

The Jigawa state Primary Health Care Agency has received over 1.7 million Naira worth of polio vaccines to be administered to children below five years in the on going polio immunization exercise across the state.

This was disclosed by the state Deputy Governor and chairman task force committee on immunisation and polio eradication, Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud while flagging off the first round of polio immunisation exercise yesterday at Madobi village in Dutse local government area of the state.

Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud explained that, “it is the government responsibility to provide effective health care delivery to everyone and children in particular”.

The deputy governor maintained that “the polio virus is a dangerous disease and it must be wiped out” in the state, adding that the state government would leave no stone unturned in the fight against the dreaded disease”.

According to him, the state in more than one and a half year has not reported any case of polio adding that this was made posible with the supports from traditional, religious leaders, parents and government.

Speaking earlier the state Commissioner of Health and social welfare, Dr. Tafida Abubakar said “for over 18 months there is no report of polio case in any part of the state”, which he attributed to tireless government effort and commitment towards eradication of polio and other diseases in the state.

Dr. Tafida Abubakar expressed gratitude to the government and people in the state for their support and cooperation to the ministry and primary health care agency.

Also speaking the director Primary Health Care Agency, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim disclosed that his agency has targeted 1.5 million children below five years to be immunized in this round of polio immunisation exercise.

Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim added that “apart from polio vaccines there are also drugs for the treatments of malaria, yellow fever and other common diseases available in all the polio vaccination centers all over the state”.
