Even as the Nigerian government takes proactive steps top end the activities of kidnappers and insurgents in the country, bandits have on Wednesday night attacked a female school in the troubled Zamfara State and abducted four staff.
The police in Zamfara on Thursday confirmed that the attacked school was an all-female secondary school.
However, it said no students were abducted.
The Zamfara State Police Commissioner, Celestine Okoye ,who disclosed this to the media Thursday morning, debunked social media reports that ten students of the school were abducted by the attacking bandits.
“We have confirmed reports of an attack on the school in Moriki, but no students were abducted,” Mr Okoye said.
“Unfortunately, four cooks were abducted from the school.”
The Police CP, said details of how the girls were prevented from being abducted would be made public shortly, adding that efforts were underway to rescue the victims.
He urged parents and members of the community not to be apprehensive about unconfirmed social media claims.
Moriki is in Zurmi Local Government Area, which has been one of the most terrorised areas by bandits in the northwest.
