The Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has called for restitution through affordable and secure housing for the internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The Council noted that one of the major challenges facing the society today is the growth in the number of IDPs.
President of ARCON, Arc Dipo Ajayi, who made this point while speaking on the sidelines of the ‘2019 Architects Colloquium’, in Abuja, said IDPs face acute challenges in terms of post internal displacement trauma and intolerance by host communities.
He stated that the role of architects should involve re-establishing security, law and order through designs, as well as contributing towards finding lasting, sustainable and indigenous solutions to the problem.
He reiterated that location, design and construction of buildings, which is a scientific and artistic undertaking, should be carried out by trained professionals at every stage of the process, to avoid cases of building collapse.
