1m malnourished pupils benefit from school feeding programme in Kaduna -Official

Moment, 1,069,140 primary 1-3 pupils in public primary schools across the state are ge Over one million malnourished pupils from 3,922 public schools have so far benefited from the National Home-Grown School Feeding programme in Kaduna State.
The state coordinator of the programme, Malam Musa Dauda disclosed this while speaking to the media on the progress achieved by the programme in Kaduna State, According to him, at the tting meals at N70 per day under the programme.”
Malam Dauda, who also double as the Director, Higher Education in Kaduna state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said that 12,376 cooks had been engaged as food vendors in the programme.
He described the initiative as life changing not only for the pupils but the vendors as well as the community at large.
One of the vendors who spoke to journalists, Mrs Keziah Akut thanked the government for empowering women through the program, saying it has helped to address the issue of malnutrition ravaging the state.
She said that among beneficiaries are children of widows who their meals lack nutrients.
Also, a food vendor Mrs Doris Simon from Bakon Kofa lauded the programme because it is helping in reducing malnutrition in the state.
“I commended the Federal Government for introducing the programme.
‘You will be surprised at what our pupils eat before now as meals. The program has brought some succour to many malnourished children “I called on the go government to sustain the program for the benefit of our children,” She said.
Investigation shows that many children of the poor received meals that have basic nutrients and this has led to increase in school enrolment.
